Kyosan — Support

Section 1 — Getting started

The app asks me to download a model. What is this? Kyosan runs entirely on your device. The first time you open the app, it downloads the Qwen 3 4B language model (approximately 2.2 GB). This only happens once. After that, no internet connection is needed. We recommend downloading over Wi-Fi.

How long does the download take? Typically 5 to 15 minutes depending on your connection speed. Keep the app open during download.

Does the app work offline? Yes, completely. After the model is downloaded, Kyosan requires no internet connection.

Section 2 — Privacy

What data does Kyosan collect? None. Kyosan collects no data, creates no account, and sends nothing to any server. Your conversations stay on your device.

What happens to my conversations when I delete the app? They are deleted with the app. If you want to keep a session, use the export button to save it as a text file in the Files app before deleting.

Section 3 — Using Kyosan

How do I save a conversation? Tap the export button in the toolbar. The session is saved as a plain text file in a Kyosan folder in your Files app. Kyosan folder will be deleted when you delete the app.

The app seems slow or warm. Is this normal? Running a language model on-device is computationally intensive. Some warmth during generation is normal. If the device becomes very hot, stop generation and let it cool. Close  all open apps. Kyosan requires iPhone 15 or newer with iOS 26.

What kind of questions work best? Kyosan is designed for questions that need room to breathe — philosophical, reflective, open-ended. It is not optimized for factual lookups, calculations, or short practical tasks.
